Drugs raid and barbecue patrols in country park as day of action sweeps Doncaster East

Things might be slightly quieter in terms of crime at present during lockdown, but last week we ran an operation across the East of Doncaster which saw us carry out raids and patrols, writes Insp Alison Carr.

We ran Operation Duxford on Wednesday, and in the morning, we carried out a drugs warrant at a house on Westfield Crescent, in Askern. Drugs paraphernalia was found, but no drugs.

We also carried out high visibility patrols around Campsall Country Park, which is somewhere people have been reported to have been breaking social distancing rules, with reports of people gathering and having barbecues without keeping their distance from one another.

In Thorne, we have had complaints over parking issues, with concerns over parking in areas in the town centre where there are double yellow lines, around Market Street. With this in mind, as part of the operation, we also looked into this issue, with officers looking at warning letters for those cars that were seen parked there.

Most of it appears to have been around the shops in that area, but they are parking in areas where they should not. The double yellow lines are there for road safety.

We also looked to arrest known people who were wanted by the courts during the operation.

Over the last few weeks we have also seen a rise in complaints over antisocial motorcycling. It may be because people are at home more, and therefore are more aware of the problem. It is something we are looking into and the South Yorkshire Police off road motorbikes team are planning to visit.

The area where we receive reports tend to include places like Amthorpe pit tip, Thorne pit tip, and Campsall Country Park.

Early in the month, we carried out a drugs warrant at High Hazel Road, in Moorends. A small amount of drugs were seized and action is being taken against two people in connection with that.

Flytipping has also been raised as an issue in recent weeks, and we are having regular online meetings with Doncaster Council. It is on our radar.

We are still here, and we want people to continue to report crime to us.
