Doncaster court spares dog after it bit a passer-by but fined its teenage owner £300

A Doncaster man has been fined after his American bulldog injured someone while “dangerously out of control” outside his house, court records show.

Jack Holbrey appeared before Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on October 13 where he admitted being the owner of the animal, which injured another person on April 29 this year.

Holbrey, 20, of Sandford Road, Balby, Doncaster, was fined £300 and ordered to pay £150 in compensation to the male victim.

He was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £34 victim surcharge, after the prosecution was brought under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Magistrates also issued an interim destruction order on the dog, meaning that it must be kept muzzled and secured on a lead at all times while in public to prevent it from injuring anybody else.

If Holbrey fails to comply with the order the dog could be seized, and Holbrey brought back to court, where magistrates could rule that it is destroyed.
