'Crazy' crooks set up drugs farm on same street as Doncaster police station

You often find illegal cannabis farms in the craziest places – but this month we found one on the same street as a police station, writes Insp Adrian Luscombe.

On May 6, we found one on Nelson Road, Edlington – just up the road from Edlington Police Station.

It was quite an elaborate set-up, with quite a number of small saplings. We seized the plants and arrested a man.

That was one of a number of raids to deal with drugs in recent weeks in Doncaster West. Lockdown has given us the opportunity to carry out warrants, with the force’s tasking team.

In Mexborough a raid on Highwoods Crescent on April 20 led to a caution for possession of cannabis. A raid on Flowitt Street the following day led to two arrests for possession of a significant amount of class A drugs and cash. They were released under investigation.

A raid on Schofield Street led to a caution for possession of a small amount of class A drugs.

Edlington saw a raid on Staveley Street on May 1. Two were arrested and released under investigation for possession of Class A drugs. On Queens Park, a cannabis growing set-up was found.

Raids in Conisbrough found six plants being cultivated on Sheldon Avenue on May 2, and 22 plants being grown on Trent Terrace.

In Bentley, we found 200 plants and arrested a man on Bentley Road on April 29; we made an arrest after finding over 120 plants being cultivated at Royston Avenue on April 30. Cannabis was recovered in a raid on Busley Gardens.

Highfields saw 15 cannabis plants seized at South Street.

Lockdown produced a big fall in burglaries initially, but that has crept back up again. But we have had recent success with a number of arrests.

We made arrests for burglaries in Edlington at Princes Crescent, on April 17, and on a shop on Violet Avenue on April 22. Arrests have also been made for break-ins at Nursery Lane, Sprotbrough, Washington Grove, Bentley, and an attempted burglary at Adwick Cricket Club.

We have also seized motorbikes and quads being ridden antisocially at Edlington, HIghfields, Roman Ridge and Norton.
