9. Anthony Arkwright
Deranged Anthony Arkwright hacked three people to death during his rampage in 1988 - and is one of around 70 people in the UK serving a whole life tariff, meaning the evil murderer will never be released and will die in prison. Arkwright disembowelled his victims in one of the most brutal murder sprees Britain has ever seen, When he turned 21, Arkwright moved into Denman Road, Wath, where he frequently rowed with his neighbours Raymond Ford and Marcus Wright. On August 27, 1988, Arkwright told neighbour Neil Hirst he was going to "kill that b*****d" after spotting the latter on his way to a nightclub. He later butchered wheelchair-bound Marcus before slicing open his stomach and shoving a crutch through it. Depraved Arkwright had then stuck cigarettes in his nose, mouth and ears - making him resemble a grotseque "birthday cake". Cops arrested him on suspicion of murder but were unaware he had killed three others in hauntingly similar attacks. Arkwright was charged with four counts of murder and stood trial at Sheffield Crown Court in 1989 where he pleaded not guilty. But he was convicted on three counts of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison. Photo: Submit
Nigel Junior Ramsey was one of four members of a Sheffield gang locked up for a total of 110 years between them in 2009 for the murder of 17-year-old Tarek Chaiboub. Tarek, who was carrying a gun himself, was shot in a 'wild west' style shootout at a barber's on Spital Street, Burngreave, in July 2008. Nigel Junior Ramsey, his brother Denzil Ramsey, their next door neighbour Levan Menzies and pal Michael Chattoo were all involved in a plot to kill Tarek. The men, who were all part of the S3 postcode gang operating in Burngreave and Pitsmoor at that time, wanted the teenager dead when rival factions in the gang clashed. They blamed Tarek, of Castledine Gardens, Wincobank, for passing on information that led to the near-fatal stabbing of another S3 gang member. Nigel Ramsey – known on the streets as ‘The General’ – and said to have been in charge of the younger members, organised the killing while behind bars. Ramsey, formerly of Andover Street, Burngreave, was convicted of murder on the grounds that he ordered the shooting of Tarek from a smuggled phone in his prison cell when he was serving time for a stabbing. He was jailed for a minimum of 35 years. His ‘lieutenant’ Chattoo, formerly of Daniel Hill Street, Upperthorpe, was jailed for a minimum of 30 years; Ramsey’s brother Denzil, got 25 years and ‘foot soldier’ Menzies, received at least 20 years. It was never proven who shot Tarek. Photo: SYP
Murderer Arthur Hutchinson, who killed three members of a Sheffield family, will spend the rest of his life locked up. He broke into a home in Dore in October 1983 and fatally stabbed husband and wife Basil and Avril Laitner and their son Richard. Just hours earlier the family had hosted a wedding celebration. The judge in his original trial ruled that he should serve a minimum of 18 years behind bars but then-home secretary Leon Brittan later imposed a whole life order. Photo: Submit
