Doncaster Town got their new season off to a solid start with an impressive seven wicket win over Harrogate in the ECB National Club Championship.

An excellent effort with the ball restricted the Yorkshire North Premier League outfit to 158 all out from 40 overs at Town Field on Sunday.

James Stuart’s eight overs yielded excellent figures of 2-12, while Curtis Free claimed 3-34 and captain Luke Townsend took 3-45.

Last season’s leading run maker Duncan Heath continued where he left off by scoring an unbeaten 79 to guide Doncaster home with four overs to spare.

Bilal Anjam also made 42.

Town will host Hanging Heaton in the second round on Sunday, May 13.

Doncaster also looked well positioned at Appleby Frodingham on Saturday in their Yorkshire South Premier League opener before the rain intervened.

Stuart starred with the bat this time, making 75.

New signing Ali Waqas also gave an early indication of his ability in an unbeaten knock of 61 which helped the visitors post 244-4.

No further play was possible, however.

Doncaster travel to Barnsley Woolley Miners on Saturday.

n On a rain affected weekend, Fishlake did complete a 32-run win at Consibrough B in Division Four of the South Yorkshire League.

Charles Metcalfe (50) and Will Holling (51) helped the visitors post 210-5.

The total proved too much for Conisbrough, who still made a gallant attempt at 178 all out.

Nathan Lovell top scored with 42, while Owen Edwards took 3-48 and Ian Walker 3-36.

Mexborough B beat Dearne by three wickets in Division Seven.

n Craig Richardson snared 6-21 to help Brodsworth Main beat Hatfield Town in Division One of the Pontefract League.

Town were skittled for 64, before Brodsworth somewhat stuttered to 65-5.

Hooton Pagnell lost by 130 runs against South Kirkby.

In Division Four Fenwick lost to Stainborough B.
