Cricket: Conisbrough and Tickhill post big wins

Conisbrough once again flexed their batting muscles as they scored a massive 357-6 on their way to a big win against Coal Aston in the South Yorkshire League Championship.

Stumper Jack Whittaker and skipper Nathan Smith both contributed 47 but it was the dynamic duo of Sri Lankan Arosh Janoda and Gary Strephan which made the major impact.

Janoda’s contribution was an excellent 53 in just 29 balls.

Strephan’s innings was explosive as he smashed his way to 96 not out in just 37 balls. This included four fours and no less than ten sixes. In an amazing stand of 73 runs for the sixth wicket, Strephan contributed all 73 runs!

In reply Coal Aston could only muster 140 all out. Janoda took 3-26 for Conisbrough.

Tickhill’s victory over Rotherham Town B at Clifton Lane saw them join a group of six promotion-chasing teams within four points of each other.

Struggling Town collapsed to 44 all out as Australian Daniel Babula claimed 3-15 and an in-form James Stuart snared 5-19 for Tickhill.

Tickhill needed three wickets to achieve their victory.

n Doncaster Town are still without a league win since the opening day of the season after they went down by 21 runs at home to unbeaten ECB Yorkshire League South leaders Appleby Frodingham.

Graeme Attenborough bowled superbly to take 6-43 as Doncaster restricted the visitors to 162 all out.

Town stuttered to 42-4 before James Ward (38) and Alex Gosney (48) led the recovery. However, their dismissals saw the hosts cave in and close on 141 all out.
