Central Midlands League: Askern off the mark with derby win over Thorne Colliery

Danny Jones put Askern ahead just after the half hour with Josh Taylor adding a second on the hour.

Danny Carver made it 3-0 before Thorne’s Josh Copeland scored a consolation in the final minute.

Askern had suffered a 4-0 midweek defeat at Appleby Frodingham in their opening game of the season.

The two sides were level at the break but the home side broke the deadlock within two minutes of the restart and added a second on the hour before adding two more in the final quarter.

Newly-formed AFC Bentley again had their shooting boots on as they hit double figures for the second time in a week when dishing out an 11-0 beating to Dinnington Town at Laughton Road.

Shaun Mundy grabbed four of the goals to take took his tally to seven in just two games.

Gary Mundy and Courtney Peynado both bagged a brace, while the speedy Rainsford Anthony and Jack Varley also chipped in.

Harworth Colliery got off the mark at the first time of asking when routing Welbeck Lions, who look to be in for a tough campaign based on their early results.

An own goal after five minutes proved to be the first of 13, with Greg Archer making it 2-0 on 13 minutes from the penalty spot.

Archer netted again before the break and with Tom Pick also bagging a first half brace, Harworth led 5-0 at the interval.

There was no let up for the luckless Lions in the second half as Michael Davies and Lee Edmondson both netted and Pick completed his hat trick.

Harworth then scored another five without reply in the last 15 minutes - Danny Dean and Marley Alder both hitting a double in addition to Sam Winterman also finding the net.
