Celebration marks Thurnscoe community centre's extension

Station House Community Association in Thurnscoe has supported families in the town for 30 years and the new build means more children will benefit for the association’s clubs and playgroups.

There will now be more room for youngsters to attend a playgroup for children aged two and above that is the only sessional playgroup in the area.

Meanwhile, the after school and holiday clubs, which look after children aged five to 11, will also be able to take in more members.

Charlotte Williams, chief executive, said: “We’re helping to build a strong community and there’s no similar project in the local area.

“Our open day was a great opportunity to say thank you to all our partners who have made the building extension possible, and to showcase what a great assets it is for us and the families we support.

“We also believe that healthy bodies give better life chances, so we’re working with a food distribution charity called Fareshare to provide breakfast and snack lunch for playgroup children, and a two course evening tea for older children that’s freshly cooked on site using quality ingredients. All the children also have a portion of fruit every time they come.”

Funding for the new building extension has been led by Newground Together, with additional support from the Tudor Trust, the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, Dearne Area Council and Norton Mayfield Architects.
