Celebrated role for Isle star Emily-Joy

The 23-year old dancer from a farm between Westwoodside and Wroot will perform with her company, the Vienna Festival Ballet, in the role of Odette.

Emily-Joy is thrilled with her latest challenge, that follows her favourite role as the Sugar Plum Fairy at the end of last year in The Nutcracker.

She said: “Odette is a demanding role....it’s emotionally tiring because of the acting requirement, but you forget the tiredness when you take your bow at the end 
of a performance. It’s an 
incredible feeling.”

She added: “I enjoy really getting in to character. The evil queen in Snow White was a good role to get your teeth in to. I love touring with this company. It’s exciting waiting to hear what we will perform next and where we are going to visit. When I visit a theatre near home I always meet with people I know at the stage door which is a bonus.

“York is a beautiful theatre....everyone in the company likes to go there.”

The former Wroot Travis C of E Primary and South Axholme Academy pupil began her dance training with the Joyce Mason School of Dance at Scunthorpe. She was an associate with the Northern Ballet Theatre and danced with the Sarasota Ballet of Florida from 2011, performing the work of celebrated choreographers Sir Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine and Will Tuckett.

Swan Lake, the popular ballet with music by Tchaikovsky will be danced by Vienna Festival on May 9 in York.
