She said: “What if you know massage could help you relax - but the thought of someone touching you actually makes you want to avoid booking one?

“I get it.

“For some people, massage doesn’t automatically feel relaxing.

“Maybe you’re autistic, have ADHD, have sensory sensitivities, struggle with anxiety, or you just don’t particularly like being touched.

“And suddenly something that’s supposed to be relaxing can bring a whole list of worries.

“What if I don’t like the pressure? What if I need them to stop? What if I don’t want to chat? What if I feel uncomfortable and don’t know how to say it?

“I think these are things we should be able to talk about without feeling awkward.

I’m neurodivergent myself and I’m also a mum to neurodivergent daughters, so this is something that’s become really important to me.

“When you come for a treatment with me, you’re in control.

“If you want to chat, we’ll chat.

“If you want complete silence, that’s absolutely fine.

“If the pressure doesn’t feel right, tell me and I’ll change it.

“If you need me to stop, I stop.

“And if you change your mind about something halfway through, that’s okay too.

“There’s no judgement and no expectation that you have to just put up with something because you’ve booked a massage.

“So if you’ve always fancied trying massage but something has held you back, please don’t feel like you have to just book and hope for the best.

“Message me first. You don’t have to explain yourself perfectly, and you definitely don’t need to feel embarrassed.”
