The Adam & Eve Pub on Amersall Road in Scawthorpe has been empty for a number of months due to the business being 'no longer being viable'.

Applicant Venture Architects has drawn up plans to split the building into three units and to apply for a change of use for shops and retail outlets, professional services, hot food and takeaways and business use.

Application drawings show a planned extension to the rear of the first of three proposed units.

Plans also include 24 parking spaces situated around the site.

The first floor of the pub currently includes a three-bedroomed flat which will remain with a new external staircase being erected at the rear of the car park.

The pub was first built in 1957 but closed down in May 2018.

Documents seen by council planning officers show the applicant is in favour of a small supermarket taking up the biggest section of the plot.

In a submission to Doncaster Council, Richard Smallwood from Venture Architects said: "The use primarily as an A1 class retail outlet for a small supermarket type premises will help to provide for a local need to the residential area whereby users of the shop facility will no longer have a need to travel to other areas by their own transport or by the use of public transport.

"It is considered that the proposed single storey extension to the property can be considered as being sympathetic to the existing building, its surroundings and to the area as a whole and will have no direct bearing on any nearby premises. The extension is totally unviewable from any highway view.

"It is felt the retention of this building on this site is important and that we request that support for this change of use be given by your authority and in doing so help to provide for a local need to the existing residents and to passing trade along Amersall Road."

A decision on the application is expected to be made later this year.
