All green bin collections in Doncaster have been suspended for the rest of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

From Monday, November 2, all collections will be halted.

Doncaster Council said a significant amount of waste operatives working for its contractors, Suez, have tested positive for Coronavirus (Covid-19) and other members of staff have also now had to self-isolate.

Coun Chris McGuinness, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “The safety of the public and staff members must take priority.

“It is balancing act to safeguard everyone’s safety against the risks of Covid-19 and make sure the bins are collected. However, as we have fewer staff members, this will mean that black and blue (recycling) bin collections will be prioritised.

“Please remember to observe the ‘HANDS – FACE – SPACE’ guidance. You can do this by cleaning your hands before and after handling your bin.

“We hope that the staff members affected make a full and speedy recovery.”
