All-Doncaster affairs top Stainforth ABC bill

Two battles for Doncaster bragging rights will provide big intrigue on a stacked night of amateur boxing from Stainforth ABC tonight.

The club have organised an 18-fight card for the show at the Old Club in Stainforth, with 16 bouts having Doncaster fighters involved.

And two fights will be all-Doncaster affairs.

Plantworks pair Curtis Greaves and Ryan Taylor are set to meet Jack Roberts of Highfields and Freedom ABC’s Harry Crank respectively.

Stainforth have their champion brothers in action, both in tough tests.

National finalist and two-time Yorkshire champion Robert Davies will face North East champion Clyde Best in a good 50/50 contest.

And younger brother, national schoolboy champion Jamie Lee Davies is set for a difficult night against the more experienced Welsh champion Morgan Hibbard.

Stainforth head coach Paul Thompson said: “To be the best you have to fight the best.

“My boxers relish a challenge. It brings out their best.

“The crowd wants 50/50 bouts and I intend to do that on this show.

Robert will travel to Preston next week to take on Thomas Fury, the younger brother of world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. The pair met in the national finals last year with Robert on the wrong end of a split decision.

“Robert wants to avenge the loss and the opportunity came up a couple of weeks ago to box him in his own back yard,” Thompson said. “It won’t be easy but I have faith in Robert.”
