Zen Internet, the only broadband provider recommended by Which? is ready in Doncaster over CityFibre network
Zen Internet and infrastructure provider CityFibre have teamed up to deliver a full fibre broadband rollout to as many homes as possible across Doncaster.
Which? has named Zen its only recommended broadband provider for the fourth consecutive year. The provider scored the maximum five stars for customer service, technical support, communication, and value for money in the consumer champion’s most recent survey of broadband providers. It was also one of only two providers to gain five stars for value for money – 85 per cent of its customers gave them a high rating for it. Zen’s appeal comes in part because of a contract price promise which means there are no mid-contract price rises on broadband packages for residents.
Ban mid-contract price rises linked to inflation
Inflation-linked mid-contract price rises are commonplace but Zen’s research found that 49% disagreed that that was fair. And 75% supported a proposed ban on the practice by Ofcom, the telecoms regulator.
Ofcom has proposed banning inflation linked mid-contract price rises, with a final decision expected in the coming weeks. Customers across the major providers have seen prices rise by as much as 8.8% in April.
In the same survey, Zen found a fear of switching was holding people back. The hassle (27%), cost (19%), and worries about losing an internet connection (18%) put people off switching provider.
A third of those who responded to the survey (34%) said they found it difficult to know where to go, despite wanting to switch. And 51% said they would be more likely to switch if the process was simpler.
Using the CityFibre network, Full fibre broadband from Zen is now available to around 58,000 homes across Doncaster, providing a faster and more reliable service.
Charles Kitchin, Partnership Manager for Doncaster at CityFibre, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Zen to help people across the country enjoy world class full fibre broadband, and we look forward to connecting more and more homes across Doncaster to our full fibre network.”
A contract price promise
The price promise from Zen means customers will not face the prospect of having a rise in charges equivalent to a 13th month’s payment on top of their existing contract.
Richard Tang, CEO, Zen Internet, said: “Research shows price, reliability, and speed are top factors when choosing a broadband provider and Zen has again scored top marks across these categories. We also have a huge ethical focus putting people and the planet ahead of financial return for shareholders.”
