Kindhearted Muslims are helping their community by donating supplies to Mexborough Foodbank.

The food is being donated via Food AWARE and comes from Ilhaam Connected Network – a Muslim body consisting of seven Mosques in Rotherham.

‘Ilhaam’ means inspiration in Arabic and it is the intention for Ilhaam to help Muslims become pro-actively engaged in their local communities.

MD of Food AWARE and Mexborough Foodbank Manager, Sean Gibbons, said: "I would like to personally thank Abdul and the Ilhaam Connected Network for their very generous food donation recently (enough to feed well over 50 families).

“This has really helped us to re-stock our supplies at Mexborough Foodbank as demand for food parcels continues largely due to new Universal Credit claims and associated delays.

He added "We look forward to working more closely with the Ilhaam Connected Network and receiving more food donations to Mexborough Foodbank plus how we can collaborate in other food projects in Rotherham and Doncaster.”

Ilhaam has brought the Muslim community together and responded by collecting urgently needed food for the people of Mexborough.

Responding to an appeal by Food AWARE, Ilhaam worked with seven Rotherham mosques, where worshippers were asked to bring in donations to their local mosque.

Mexborough Foodbank continues to help the people of the town and Sean said: “I’m really grateful for all the generosity shown by the seven mosques and the hard work by Ilhaam It’s an amazing effort.”
