Free pudding with any main course at the Mowbray Arms, Epworth

It is almost a year since Shaun Scalley came from Harworth to take over the Mowbray, and he is delighted to report that trade is doing well as he looks forward to another 12 months behind the bar of the welcoming hostelry.

His home-cooked pub food has proved a major attraction to both local people and visitors from further afield.

And this week, our readers can choose a free sweet course after their main meal, redeemable with the coupon printed in the paper, that must be filled in and handed over at the bar.

Since Shaun moved in to the pub/eatery, it has undergone a refurbishment. The menu too has expanded with a wide range of home-cooked pub food favourites on offer.

Carveries are popular on Sundays from noon to 6pm, with a choice of roast beef, pork loin or chicken breast with five different fresh vegetable options, mashed and roast potatoes and home-made yorkshire puddings for £7.95.

From Tuesday to Friday until March 3, meals are served in the evenings and two people can eat for £11 from 5pm to 7pm, with all meals freshly cooked to order. After March 3 this offer will also be from noon to 3pm. There are such favourites as steak’n’ale pie, chilli, fish and chips, or lasagne, to name just a few.

Steak nights have proved another draw on Tuesday evenings from 6pm, when two steaks and a bottle of wine can be yours for £20. Choose from a 10oz rib eye, 10oz sirloin or 12 oz gammon.

From March 3 food will be served all day from noon to 9pm Tuesday to Friday, and noon to 8pm on Saturdays. Children’s portions are available.

Live music features regularly at the Mowbray, and Shaun stages charity events, as well as getting involved with community efforts.

This year again, on June 21, the Mowbray Arms will be the starting venue for the Isle Tractor Run in aid of Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

This event ran for the first time in 2014 and helped to raise over £4,500 for the hospice.

On Saturday (February 28) the Scrapyard Dogs will provide live music for those looking for a good night out, and watch out for more live entertainment dates in the future.

The comfortable and relaxing Mowbray Arms is a good place to celebrate a special occasion, or simply to unwind after a hard day.

Former Wetherspoons manager Shaun said he “fell in love” with the Mowbray at first sight, and is keen that everyone should enjoy its facilities.
