Launch of new art project celebrating Thorne in the past and in the present comes to Doncaster

The inter-generational project, funded by Right Up Our Street and Doncaster Council, has seen the Thorne Sea Cadets and business forum work with photographer, Jamie Bubblier, to develop artworks that now feature in shop windows in Thorne.

Sally Lockey, project director of Right Up Our Street said: “We are so please to have been able to support this project. Working with photographer Jamie Bubb and poet Lydia Allison, the Thorne Sea Cadets have had their energy, their enthusiasm, and their creative vision transformed into a celebration of local heritage, and they were all very proud to see the works placed in shop windows around Thorne, when town Mayor Mark Houlbrook launched the artwork earlier this month.

“Showcasing them on a large scale, along the high street of Thorne, gives them the attention they deserve, just in time for the UCI event tomorrow. They are a great visual display of the difference art can make to an area.

“At the launch, one member of the community came up to me and said that this was one of those projects that people would talk about in the town for years to come.

“We are pleased to have worked with Doncaster Council on this project and for their contribution which came from the Community Strand of the UCI World Championship fund. This project is a true example of how partnership working can bring community members across generations together to truly celebrate where they live.”

Right Up Our Street was formed in 2014 and is a 10-year project, dedicated to helping people to choose, create and take part in brilliant art experiences in the places where they live.
