‘It won’t be the same without her’ – Doncaster party boat destroyed by fire

A popular Doncaster cruise ship that has served as a party destination for generations of revellers has been destroyed by fire.

The owners of the Wyre Lady, a party boat which has been a fixture on the River Don for years, said the vessel was badly damaged in a blaze earlier this evening.

A message posted on Facebook said: “Our lovely river boat, The Wyre Lady, has been ravaged by fire this evening.

“If anyone saw anything at all (and not just the fire engines) can you let us know.”

Well-wishers expressed their shock and hopes that the boat could be rescued.

Daryl Aitken said: “Hope it can be fixed it’s part of the scenery down here and I’ve had some great nights on board such a shame.”

Samantha Ann said: “Oh no, I met my husband on that boat 10 years ago in August - hope it can be fixed and hope someone has some information.”

And Gill Barton said: “Awful news, hope she can be repaired, won't be the same without her.”
