Try Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to help ease the after-effects of Christmas excess

It’s time to let your hair down and enjoy some festive revelry. Believe it or not, oxygen may now be the key to giving you more energy to have even more fun . . . here’s how.

The party season usually means late nights, rich food and drink – and possibly some energetic dancing. Sometimes, however, the next day can be a struggle as energy levels begin to sag and the skincare routine has to be ramped up.

It is claimed that increasing the levels of oxygen in the blood can help to produce collagen, which increases the elasticity of the skin, making you look healthier.

It could also increase the body’s ability to recover from those dancefloor exertions, allowing you to put on your glad rags and go again.

Sarah Todd, who runs Oxify in Retford where you can book sessions in a hyperbaric chamber, says: “It makes you feel better, giving you more energy to go out and party again. If the dancefloor isn’t your thing then the oxygen boost has anti-ageing properties which are an added bonus.”

At its centre in Retford, Oxify uses Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to treat everyone from partygoers to sportspeople, who say they are benefitting from their treatments.

What exactly is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

In simple terms, it is breathing in almost pure oxygen (98 per cent oxygen as opposed to the 21 per cent in air), This is done in the pressurised environment of a hyperbaric chamber. You lie down and inhale the oxygen through a mask while being supervised by a fully-trained member of Oxify’s team.

It is perhaps best-known for its use in treating decompression sickness for deep divers but is can help with a wide range of illnesses.

The air pressure inside the chamber is two or three times more than normal which it is claimed helps the blood carry extra oxygen around the body. This can help fight bacteria and stimulate the release of cells which promote healing.

It has also been used to deal with fatigue, headaches, migraine, symptoms of long-covid or simply to boost wellbeing.
