Police were called to a Doncaster greyhound track after complaints of a potential breach of coronavirus restrictions.

Officers were called to Askern Greyhound Stadium on Friday night after receiving a number of reports of people gathering at the track.

A spokesman said: “South Yorkshire Police were made aware of reports of a possible gathering at the venue on Friday.

"Officers attended and were satisfied that the event was not open to the public in line with current guidance.

"The operator had ensured Covid compliant measures were in place and being adhered to.

Racing is permitted and owners and operators are allowed to access the stadium.”

Under Tier 3 coronavirus restrictions, racing venues are not allowed to open to the public but events can take place behind closed doors.

Under normal conditions, racing takes place at the stadium on Selby Road, which has been open for more than 80 years, every Wednesday and Friday.
