Pensioner's shock after being fined for parking at Doncaster vaccine centre

Mary Burns, aged 81, had driven from her Cantley home to the Keepmoat Stadium, one of the sites being used for vaccines in the borough, and thought everything would be fine when she parked up in one of the stadium’s car parks.
But a few days later she recevied a letter from a parking management firm telling her she was going to be fined £100.

After the Free Press approached the Keepmoat Stadium and the parking management company, the fine has been cancelled.
Mrs Burns daughter-in-law said she was grateful that the fine had now been overturned, but wanted to make sure other people were not fined. She said she wanted people to make sure they parked in the right area.
She said: “Mary parked in the car park for her 9am appointment and subsequently received a letter stating she had incurred a £100 car parking fine.
“Attending the vaccine appointment is a stressful event for someone of this age. Mary said no one was directing traffic and she hadn’t realised the private car park would be charging people attending the vaccination appointments. Incurring a fine is very upsetting for Mary and I am wondering if other people are finding themselves in the same situation.”

Mrs Burns had parked in car park one, which is patrolled by a parking management company because some of its spaces are rented on non match days by businesses in the Lakeside area.
Shaun Lockwood, spokesman for Club Doncaster, which runs the stadium, said the parking area closest to the stadium, known as car park two, was available for all those coming in to receive their vaccines to park for free. He said they had received no other reports of fines.
He added Mrs Burns’ parking fine would be scrapped now they were aware of it.
A spokesman for Parkingeye, the parking management company that looks after car park one, confirmed the fine had been scrapped.

He said: “An appeal to this PCN (penalty charge notice) was submitted yesterday and following review, it has now been cancelled. Confirmation will be sent out to the motorist in the coming days.”
