In its weekly update, Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trusy said that it had seen a ‘small but manageable rise’ in coronavirus cases since last week.

A spokesman said: “At time of writing, we have 128 patients with us receiving care for Covid-19. Doncaster Royal Infirmary is caring for 91 of these patients, 30 are being treated at Bassetlaw in Worksop and seven are at Mexborough Montagu Hospital.

"This is a small rise from last week, but manageable.

“Of these patients, 23 patients currently require intensive care. Overall, the age range of those with us is between 36 and 96.

“Since the introduction of the national lockdown measures, we have been heartened by your response and support, and our colleagues continue to work hard for local people. You have all done your bit, and we believe this is reflected in the stable and consistent activity we are currently seeing. Keep it up, what you’re doing is working and giving us the headroom we need to both care for patients, and ensure we are well underway with vaccination programmes locally.

“Thank you everybody – let’s keep going and give COVID-19 the boot out of our towns.”

Since the start of the pandemic last March, nearly 700 people in Doncaster have died with coronavirus.

More than 1,500 patients have been successfully treated for Covid at the region’s three hospitals and allowed home after treatment.
