New figures put coronavirus death toll in Doncaster at 107

Yesteday, Doncaster reached a grim milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic after the number of deaths passed 100.

According to the latest set of figures, released by NHS England this afternoon, there have now been 107 deaths in the Doncaster hospital trust area.

The figure is up four on yesterday’s total of 103.

In total, there have been 494 cases of COVID-19 in the Doncaster area.

The figures relate to deaths recorded and reported in the last 24 hours, but do not include deaths in care homes or the wider community.

The numbers relate to all hospitals in the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which includes Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital in Mexborough and Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop.

More than 150 patients treated for COVID-19 at Trust hospitals have been allowed home after treatment.

Locally, there have been 2,191 cases and 221 deaths in Sheffield, an increase of three.

Rotherham has reported 736 cases and 119 deaths, an increase of six on yesterday’s figures.

The number of deaths in Barnsley stands at 92 with 678 cases, the same figure as yesterday.

Nationally, the UK coronavirus death toll reached 29,086 following the death of another 436 patients.

With the UK now its seventh week of lockdown, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said he will announce the country’s exit strategy in Sunday.
