New coronavirus death in Doncaster as nationwide death toll nears 4,500

South Yorkshire has seen 22 new deaths since yesterday’s figures – with the England total now standing at 4,494.

Newly released NHS figures show that a further 555 people, who tested positive for Covid-19 have died in the past 24 hours.

Patients were aged between 33 years and 103 years old.

29 of the 555 patients (aged between 35 and 95 years old) had no known underlying health conditions.

Locally, there have been 47 deaths in Sheffield – an increase of 13 in the last day.

Rotherham has seen eight deaths, an increase of two, while in Barnsley, there have now been 19 deaths, up six on yesterday.

There have now been 83 deaths from coronavirus in South Yorkshire – up from yesterday’s total of 61.

Across the area’s four NHS Trusts, there have been 1,163 cases of COVID-19 – although the figure is thought to be far higher.

Doncaster still has the lowest number of confirmed cases in South Yorkshire, with 117.

A five-year-old child with underlying health conditions was among those with coronavirus whose deaths were reported in the past two days, Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove said.

There have been 41,903 confirmed cases, as of 5pm yesterday.

Mr Gove said seven healthcare professionals have now died.

Earlier today, it was announced that Lord Bath of Longleat had died from coronavirus at the age of 87.
