'Imagine every seat empty:" Doncaster police use Keepmoat Stadium to highlight death toll

Police in Doncaster have used a stark reminder of the UK’s coronavirus death toll to press home the stay home rules by telling people to imagine an empty Doncaster Rovers stadium.

Doncaster Central Neighbourhood Police Team shared a picture of the stadium’s East Stand as part of their campaign to get people to stop at home during the COVID-19 lockdown and wrote on Facebook: “This is the East Stand at the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster.

“It seats just under 5,000 people.

“4,934 people have died in the UK from coronavirus.

“Imagine every seat being empty. That many lives lost. That many grieving families. That many funerals.

“Please stay home. Please save lives.”

In Doncaster there have been 137 confirmed cases and nine deaths – although the number of people living with the virus in the town is thought to be far higher.
