Doncaster's coronavirus infection rate doubles

The coronavirus infection rate has doubled in Doncaster, the latest weekly update shows.

The figures, for the seven days to August 7, are based on tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community. Data for the most recent three days (August 8-10) has been excluded as it is incomplete and likely to be revised.

In Doncaster, the infection rate per 100,000 people rose from 1.9 in the seven days to July 31 to 3.8 in the seven days to August 7. There were 12 confirmed positive coronavirus cases in the town for the week ending August 7, compared to six in the previous week.

In nearby Sheffield, the infection rate dropped from from 16.1 per 100,000 people to 10.3. It rose from 10.9 to 13.0 in Barnsley and from 10.9 to 14.7 in Rotherham during the same period.

Pendle in Lancashire had the highest infection rate in England in the seven days to 7 August.
