The Trust, which runs Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital, revealed that eight more coronavirus patients been admitted to hospitals in Doncaster, bringing the total number of people with Covid-19 being cared for by the Trust up to 18.

While health bosses stressed that the “these are relatively low numbers” of patients with the virus, they urged people to continue to follow government guidelines, such as washing hands, covering your face and keeping a safe, social distance to slow the spread of coronavirus.

"We are now caring for an additional eight people bringing the total to 18 (16 at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and two at Bassetlaw Hospital).

"Of these patients, two require ventilation, and we wish them all the very best in their recovery.

“To lend some perspective, as well to look to the positives as we always try to do, in context to earlier this year, these are still relatively low numbers, however we do need to remain vigilant as a community and continue to place an emphasis on hands, face and space.

"As we shared earlier today, Bassetlaw and Doncaster have some of the lowest rates of infection in South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire and we want it to remain that way.

“Keep doing what you're doing, shield the vulnerable and help us kick this unwanted visitor out of our towns - with your continued support, we know it won't take us too long to do so.”

Doncaster remains the area in South Yorkshire with the lowest infection rate, with 47.43 positive tests per 100,000 people, compared to 95 cases in every 100,000 in Sheffield.

In Barnsley, the town has 49.3 cases of the virus per 100,000, while Rotherham is an area of ‘concern’ with 85.8 positive tests in every 100,000 people.
