Doncaster council tenants will not have to pay rent for three months

Doncaster Council has announced that there will be a three month rent ‘holiday’ for tenants of houses managed by St Leger Homes.

The decision comes as part of the Mayor of Doncaster’s ‘10 point plan’ to help people and communities through the coronavirus pandemic.

The Mayor of Doncaster said that tenants will not be pursued for not paying their rent for a period of up to 3 months if they are financially affected the by coronavirus pandemic.

Paul Tanney, Chief Executive of St Leger Homes, said:“In these challenging times we want to do everything we can to help our tenants.

“Tenants struggling to pay their rent due to reduced income from the Covid 19 virus will be supported by our staff to claim benefits and not be pursued for rent payment for 3 months, where there is financial hardship.

“The announcement by the Mayor this morning will help many families and individuals living in Doncaster as they deal with many of the uncertainties that the coronavirus has brought.

Other proposals in the 10-point plan include a three month Council Tax payment holiday for households struggling to pay due to the crisis.
