More than 2,000 older adult care home workers – nearly 90% of those eligible, have received at least one Covid jab.

The figures have been published by NHS England and cover vaccinations up to June 6.

Staff are eligible to receive the vaccine if they have not had Covid-19 in the previous 28 days.

The figures put Doncaster in the top ten UK local authorities, with Blackpool topping the list while only York and Rotherham rank higher locally.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been nearly 900 coronavirus deaths across Doncaster, with the majority of them recorded in hospital settings.

More than 3,000 people have been treated in the area’s three hospitals for Covid and in its last weekly update, the health trust said it was treating zero Covid patients.
