It comes as bosses at the trust which runs the venue call on the public not to visit friends at the site if they feel unwell, and after the first two cases of coronavirus were reported to have been found in the borough, although is is unclear if they were in Doncaster proper or the broader Doncaster postcode area.

The cancellation of training is intended to free people up to prepare future challenges due to the virus, also known as Covid-19.

Richard Parker OBE, chief executive at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, said: “Please support your local hospitals and do not visit any friends, family and loved ones if you are feeling unwell or suspect that you have been in contact with anyone who may have Coronavirus - the signs and symptoms include a continuous cough or a temperature exceeding 37.8 degrees Celsius.

“If you are well enough to visit, you must wash your hands when entering and leaving the ward or clinical area, after any patient contact and when you get home.

“As a trust we are also pausing any non-essential training which isn’t related to our Covid-19 preparations. This will allow us to create the appropriate head-room for colleagues to further prepare and deal with any challenges we may face in the coming weeks.

“We are monitoring our position daily, ensuring we are in-line with all relevant national guidance and respond to local developments.”
