Large groups of shoppers could be seen waiting outside the Lidl store on Sandford Road, Balby this morning.

The store is not one of the supermarkets to introduce special shopping hours for NHS staff or the over 70s.

The shopper who captured the scenes said: “People clearly have no idea what 'social distancing ' means.”

Yesterday, the Government told people to shop responsibly and think of one another, amid pleas that there was more than enough food to go around – as long as shoppers remain kind to each other.

Many stores have introduced special opening hours and are limiting shoppers to the amount of items they can buy amid recent scenes of panic buying which have seen shelves stripped bare.
