Coronavirus death toll in Doncaster increases

The number of coronavirus hospital deaths in Doncaster has risen to 231 after a further fatality was recorded by Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Trust.

It is the first death recorded in five days at the trust, which runs Doncaster Royal Infirmary Hospital as well as Bassetlaw Hospital, Montagu Hospital in Mexborough and Retford Hospital.

The 231 fatalities to date do not include deaths in care home or other settings.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, one more hospital patient who tested positive for coronavirus has died in Rotherham, taking the hospital death toll there to 201.

Nationally, a further 19 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of hospital deaths in England to 29,231. The patients were aged between 35 and 89 years old and all had known underlying health conditions.

From Friday (24 July) face coverings will become compulsory in shops and supermarkets in England to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
