"The school environment is just not the same without the hustle and bustle. All our staff have been in work, socially distancing but teaching from their classrooms.

"There has been a tremendous team spirit. When the pupils return we will continue to adhere to all guidelines and keep everyone safe.

"I am so proud of how my staff have approached their jobs, how well the students have engaged with remote learning and I can't thank our parents enough for being so supportive.

"We will take time to digest all relevant information in relation to getting all students back in school and adapt to do what is necessary to minimise any associated risks.

"We did a good job before lockdown and I think that is because our systems and procedures were simple, clear and everyone bought into them. Thankfully we have not been as affected as many other schools, many of which have had a tough time so I do feel for my colleagues leading those schools.

“All you can strive for is to try to keep everyone safe and try to protect the pupils and staff as much as possible. We have to be positive and move forward. Our young people deserve a really good education and we must do our best to plug any gaps but not lose sight of the fact there is more to school than lessons. We will do our very best to encourage them to get back involved in wider school life.”

Jayne Gaunt, principal at Outwood Academy (Danum), added: “We will be delighted to welcome students back as soon as it is feasible. School is an incredibly important part of young peoples' lives, for their wellbeing and for their future life chances. We have been planning for students to return to school for a long time and hope to see everyone as soon as we possibly can.”

Lindsay Dickinson, principal, at Denaby Main Primary Academy, part of Astrea Academy Trust, said: "The re-opening of schools on March 8 is good news for Denaby Main pupils and their families. With the encouragement and support of our fantastic staff, they have done an amazing job in following their lessons online and I am so proud of how hard they have worked.

“However, now it is possible, school is the best place for our children, and I am very much looking forward to welcoming them back. Our focus now is on helping our pupils adjust to life back in the classroom and to supporting their positive progress for the remainder of the school year.”
