Doncaster Theatre company selected to perform new play in the National Theatre festival
A theatre group from a Doncaster school has been selected from over 150 youth groups across the UK to take part in the massive festival.
The Delante Detras Theatre Company from Hall Cross Academy will perform ‘Crusaders’ at Cast later this year.
It will be recorded and shared across the UK as part of a digital celebration of youth theatre.
Mike Dougherty, group leader, said: “We’ve had the privilege of being part of National Theatre’s Connections for a number of years now.
“It is an amazing experience every year, with dynamic new plays to choose from and produce with amazing support and guidance from The National Theatre.
“Through these plays, our students get to experience the world and stories beyond their own lives and get to work with professionals from the industry to create the end product.
“It is an honour to have our production selected to be a part of this year’s final programme and a massive thank you to Cast, our partner theatre, for helping us realise our vision.”
Delante Detras Theatre Company is part of ICA-Perform at Hall Cross Academy, the performing arts department with its own identity and remit to demonstrate the support the academy has for the arts.
They have been running for 14 years and focus on their young people getting the experience to perform beyond school.
Jacob, a young company member, said: “It’s been really interesting to explore a script with complex themes that link to real events going on in the world.
