The National College for Advanced Transport & Infrastructure (NCATI) is a state-of-the-art college based on Carolina Way in Doncaster.

Relaunched in 2021 as part of the University of Birmingham group, NCATI provides the specialist training, skills and qualifications required to deliver world-class transport and infrastructure projects like HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail.

Open to everyone

NCATI was established to create the engineering workforce of the future, drawn from lots of different backgrounds and with the adaptable skillset to take on today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. The College’s courses can therefore be accessed at various different levels, ranging from school leaver courses for ages 16 and over, to apprenticeships and higher education qualifications for 18+, all with more accessible entry requirements than your traditional college or university courses.

Whether it’s the brand new BTEC Extended Diploma in Infrastructure - equivalent to three A-Levels, but more practical and valued by employers - or the BSc in High Speed Rail and Infrastructure - a three-year flexible degree programme awarded by Sheffield Hallam University and requiring two A-Levels at grade C - NCATI offers routes into engineering for all.

Guaranteed routes into employment

And it’s not just engineers that are needed by the transport and infrastructure sector.

The types of jobs within the industry are very varied, from hands-on roles to office-based, from creative to technical. Current roles needed in the industry include:

- Data analysts

- Project managers

- Architects

- Designers

- Technicians

- Civil and systems engineers

NCATI is unique in that it is the only college set up to deliver its learners directly into these roles and address the industry’s skills shortage.

The college's principal, Ian Fitzpatrick, said: "We are dedicated to producing a new generation of highly skilled professionals to lead the UK’s future transport and infrastructure workforce. What makes NCATI different is that it has been developed in partnership with businesses that already work in the industry. This means that our courses and our facilities have been designed specifically to give these businesses graduates with the in-demand skills they need."

Upcoming open day

The college will be hosting its final Open Day of the year on Tuesday, July 19, from 1pm to 5pm.

At the event, you'll be able to tour the impressive campus, with £9 million worth of high-tech engineering equipment, and speak to staff and learners about applying onto one of NCATI’s courses for September 2022: places are still available on all courses, so it’s not too late to kickstart your career in transport and infrastructure!
