South Yorkshire Housing Association joins Places for People as merger completes

South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA) has officially joined the Places for People (PfP) Group, marking a major step that will expand investment and support for thousands of Customers across South Yorkshire and the wider region.

The move follows successful negotiations, due diligence, and Customer consultations, bringing SYHA’s 5,700 homes across Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire into one of the UK’s largest social enterprises, which now manages 262,000 homes nationwide.

From 1 December 2025, SYHA becomes a subsidiary of PfP, combining PfP’s national scale, financial resilience, and development capacity with SYHA’s deep local roots and 50-year heritage of delivering high-quality homes, care and support.

Greg Reed, Group Chief Executive Officer at Places for People, said: “We’re delighted to welcome SYHA into the PfP Group. Both organisations have a long and proud history of supporting South Yorkshire and its surrounding areas through social homes and vital services that strengthen local Communities.

“SYHA’s deep local expertise and strong social purpose make it an exceptional partner. Together, reinforced by PfP’s scale and financial resilience, we can invest more confidently, expand our impact, and enhance the support people across the region rely on.”

Larry Gold, Chief Executive of South Yorkshire Housing Association, said: “Joining PfP marks a new chapter for SYHA and the Customers and Communities we’ve proudly supported for more than 50 years.

“With PfP’s backing, we can accelerate improvements to our homes, build more affordable housing, and continue offering great services and support. What matters most is that our Customers see the benefits, and we’re committed to making sure this partnership delivers exactly that.”

SYHA will now begin the process of transitioning fully into the PfP Group over the next year, eventually operating under the same name while retaining the local expertise that defines its service.
