The event has been organised by North Lincolnshire Council’s Steel Task Force and is aimed at those facing the prospect of unemployment and supply chain employees.

A total of 19 companies, including Stagecoach, Corrboard UK Ltd and North Lincolnshire and Goole Hospital Trust, are due to attend the event at the steelworks between 1pm and 7pm.

Those attending are advised to bring their CV and there will be a chance to discuss with the companies their skills and experience and find out what jobs are available.

Axholme Central councillor Liz Redfern, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The event is aimed specifically at those facing redundancy and who are actively looking for another job. It is also available to supply chain businesses as the imminent job losses will also impact on them.

“Through the Task Force, we are making every effort to minimise the impact on workers, be it to help them find alternative jobs, training or for those wanting to know what opportunities are out there.

“The fact that 19 companies have already committed to attend speaks volumes. Many are looking to recruit so it is an ideal opportunity for people to go along and find out how they can help you.”

The steel industry has blamed cheap Chinese imports for a collapse in steel prices.

The job cuts have sparked protest marches led by union leaders across the region.
