Central England Co-op is to open its first store in Doncaster at High Street, Barnby Dun, later this year.

Bosses at the firm, which has over 200 shops nationally, expect it to create between 20 and 30 jobs.

The building had been closed for two years and Doncaster Council planning officer Alicia Murray had said the building in its current form was ‘somewhat of an eyesore’.

Co-op Project manager Chris Page said: “We are delighted to announce plans for a store in Doncaster for the very first time.

“We are working hard to bring members and customers a great community store with a brand new look, exciting new features and packed full of amazing products.”

An opening date for the site has yet to be finalised.
