Over 50 brightly coloured drawings of rainbow-themed cakes are currently in the window of Cherry Blossom Cakes in Bawtry.

Owner Charlotte Wilcox set out to make the display to cheer up people who were out on their daily walks.

She said: “I usually change the window display every six to eight weeks but I didn’t want to order any unnecessary materials that would put extra strain on royal mail.

“I have been baking for the NHS and thought that having rainbows would be a show of support for them when they come to collect the treats.

“I think what they’re doing on a day to day basis is incredible.”

Charlotte asked for help on social media for people to draw rainbow themed cakes and then email them to her so that she could print them out and stick them up in the shop front’s window.

They received 59 submissions - the furthest came all the way from Australia but many were sent in from Bawtry residents.

“I have seen people stop to look and take photos of the display,” she continued.

“I hope that it is bringing smiles to people’s faces.”

So far Charlotte has baked over 550 treats for NHS workers - she is making treat boxes made up of brownies, flapjacks, and cookies which staff have been collecting from the store.

“I have had a first-hand experience of how amazing the NHS staff are doing at the moment,” Charlotte continued.

“I sadly lost my father in law recently - he was treated at Northern General and the nurses had such a level of compassion.

“They were calling my mother in law two to three times a day with updates and really took their time to support her.”

Charlotte usually makes wedding cakes but with all big days being postponed until later in the year she is using the ingredients that would have been cakes for the NHS treat boxes.
