Doncaster markets set to re-open as lockdown measures ease

Doncaster and Mexborough Markets are taking steps to reopen the wider markets from tomorrow as lockdown measures are relaxed.

Throughout the lockdown period, Doncaster and Mexborough Markets have supported a network of essential traders offering fresh food and produce to the people of Doncaster, both at the market and through home delivery services.

Following the latest announcements from the Government, market bosses are now ready to re-open the wider market in accordance with guidelines.

A spokesman for the markets said: “Measures have been in place to monitor and control entry into the building, with shoppers being greeted upon arrival, directed to hand sanitising facilities and instructions of the exit location to assist with social distancing requirements.

“In line with the latest government guidance, we are pleased to say that from Friday, June 5, Doncaster’s Tuesday, Friday and Saturday outdoor market will reopen on Market Place,.

“Social distancing measures will be in place, including the spacing out of traders, introduction of one-way systems and ground markings to support social distancing.”

Other retail will be reopening from June 16 on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 8am and 2pm across the estate.

This includes the Corn Exchange, Goose Hill Market and the Wool Market, as well as a retail traders at Mexborough Market, with new measures in place to ensure social distancing and hand-sanitising can be adhered to.

These will include one-way systems, designated points of entry and exit, floor markings and hand-sanitising stations.

The spokesman said: “We encourage people to come back to the market and support local traders in a safe way, and market staff and the wider community of traders will be on hand to provide guidance and support.

“Although food units are not yet able to open in the Wool Market, many traders will be offering a takeaway service from today available from 5pm to 9pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays.”
