Environmentally conscious florist is opening a stall in Doncaster town centre

The Little Green Flower Pot will open on August 1 in the Doncaster Wool Market.
Owner Kirsty Mackell decided to set up her new business after she was made redundant before Covid-19 hit.

Hide AdKirsty, from Auckley, said: “I have been interested in floristry for a while but never got up the nerve to take the leap.
Kirsty started by making bouquets and selling them online.
She says it was scary to launch a business during a pandemic but found that the floristry community was welcoming and helpful.
She joined the Doncaster Chamber’s launchpad program which is designed to help new businesses thrive.

Hide Ad“After doing a lot of research I realised that there is a lot of waste involved in floristry,” she said.
“From the plastic that you wrap the flowers up with to the carbon footprint that you build up if you order them from abroad.
Kirsty has found four British flower suppliers to ensure that her environmental impact is as low as she can get it.

Hide AdShe has also invested in sustainable packaging and is offering her customers a discount if they return reusable flower boxes.
Kirtsy said: “I was shocked when I saw how much waste could be produced when I wanted to set up this business.
“I have five grandchildren and I want the world to be a better place for them as they’re growing up.”

Hide AdThese can include the spreading of wildflowers on top of graves and environmentally friendly funeral wreaths which do not leave plastic or foam waste.
Kirsty would also like to hold classes with school children and teach them all about sustainability and the environment.
