Queues appeared outside Doncaster’s hair salons when they first opened after lockdown on Saturday.
And when customers got inside, things looked very different.
There were fewer chairs operating – and the hairdressers and the stylists were all wearing masks or visors. Our pictures show how the salons are now looking – as well as the first post lockdown haircuts in Doncaster!
Kerry Merritt was delighted to be back up and running at Crazy Cuts, in Wheatley Hills.
She said it was exhausting and involved getting used to all the new arrangements, but she loved every minute of it.
She said: "Back doing the job I love the most making people leave feeling 100 per cent happier, and after three months they are 200 per cent feeling happier.”
Sharon Qunnn, from Strands, in Edenthorpe, was happy to be re-opening too.
She said: “First day was Saturday. Everyone worked well following the new guidelines.”
Leeanne Kime, from Bliss hair and beauty in Stainforth said their original visors were painful, but another salon had helped them out by providing more comfortable ones for them for free.
She said: “We are covid safe with all social distancing in place. Safety precautions as well as PPE.”
Hundreds of salons are back open again, and have set up a mutual support group online.
Over the last few months they have been working together by swapping tips and ideas for how to work with the new safety rules, and suggestions on how to keep in touch with their clients.
The Free Press is running a #Support Local campaign to encourage the public to support their local businesses as Doncaster comes out of lockdown.
