Doncaster nail tech says home-based salons are likely to become more popular

The government announced that nail salons are now allowed to be back in business but with a myriad of new social distancing measures in place.

Hide AdThe 24-year-old said: “There are lots of benefits from working in a garden-based salon.
“I think a lot of my clients will be very nervous to come back and get their nails done so hopefully using this small area will bring them comfort.
“In a traditional salon there will be lots of people but here there is just me.”
Emily is leaving half an hour in between each appointment so that she can deep clean her salon.

Hide AdShe says having a home working space means she saves on renting a chair in a salon and she thinks more nail artists will be following her lead due to the pandemic.
“Clients may begin to value cleanliness and safety over the atmosphere of a larger establishment.”
Emily created her garden salon by installing a shed and renovating it with beauty equipment last November.

Hide AdShe says the last four months have been hard but she is excited to reopen for business on Monday, July 20.
“The new normal is certainly going to be hard to get used to but I think after a while it will be fine,” Emily said.
“I was lucky that I had a full-time job outside of beauty throughout the lockdown but many others in the industry did not.
“It has been a whirlwind for a lot of us.”
In the future, she hopes that the government will announce that other beauty treatments can become operational again as she also offers brows and eyelash lifts.
