Doncaster Central Library to close its doors after 51 years later this month

The library, in Waterdale, will close on November 27 to allow staff to transfer books over to the new Danum Gallery, Library and Museum, which is due to open in 2021.

It will remain open until that date, but on reduced hours.

There will be no building access to the public but it will be open for returns and collections, with customers urged to use the order and collect service to reserve books.

During the switchover, library members will still be able to loan books and spoken word items from branch and community libraries.

A spokesman said: “We recognise that not all our customers are able to visit an alternative library to Central Library in person. As a temporary measure anyone requiring books and unable to access a library, can request a delivery from the Home Library service. Please phone 01302 734304 for further details.”All Doncaster library members have free access to eBooks and eAudio via OverDrive and Borrowbox, music downloads and streaming from Freegal and a new service form RBdigital which gives access to a wide range of eMagazines, eComics and digital newspapers.

Please note, appointments must me made by phone or email to collect or return books.

The current library dates from 1969 and was opened exactly 100 years to the day from the town’s first library.
