Bosses pledge 'business as usual' at resource centre after Doncaster community organisation goes into liquidation

Concerns were raised about the collapse of the community organisation last week by a trust which had given the Mexborough Community Partnership (MCP) a grant to buy the building which was its base several years ago. The building was later sold to Mexborough Business Centre, a private business.

The Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT) had been looking into the way in which the building was sold. Last week it said it was working with its advisors to ensure that maximum benefit for the Mexborough community was achieved. The trust had proposed a way to ensure the funds generated from the proceeds of the sale of their building would support local projects.

The new owners say it will be business as usual at the resource centre.

Steve Cooper, sales and media manager at Mexborough Business Centre said today: “We were very sorry to hear the news that Mexborough Community Partnership had gone into liquidation.

“We had worked closely with them to bring in various training courses and community activities to the Resource Centre. Unfortunately, due to the current Coronavirus situation, it has affected many businesses, charities and community projects.

“We will be working with the administrators under the current situation to ensure everything runs smooth. At the moment everything remains the same – our training programmes and activities can continue with new and future bookings already being made.

“With regards how Mexborough Resource Centre is affected by the news our aim is to support our local community and surrounding areas the best we can, the simple answer is ‘it’s business as usual’.

“Due to our contacts with the training providers in the area we are able to continue to provide free training to the local community.”

He said Rotherham College would be restarting courses at the venue from next month.

Sue Phillips, chairman of Mexborough Community Partnership, said she could not comment about the situation at present.

The sale of the centre to Mexborough Business Centre had upset local politicians because the building had initially had been paid for with a £300,000 grant from the CRT.
