This weekend, Sheffield Cathedral will once again host Spirit of Adventure – a two-night celebration of films, music and outdoor culture curated by the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF).

Taking place on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 November, the event offers a powerful mix of cinematic storytelling, live choral performances, street food and, for the first time ever, a ski themed Snow Show on the Cathedral forecourt including a mini ski jump with athletes performing tricks over the two days.

In a new partnership, ShAFF has teamed up with Revive Sheffield Ski Village (RSSV), the campaign working to regenerate Sheffield’s long abandoned ski slope, to create a winter inspired takeover in the heart of the city.

The Cathedral forecourt will be transformed into a mini snow park, complete with freestyle athletes performing tricks, a live DJ, and stalls from outdoor brands and local organisations. Sunshine Pizza will be on site all evening, and the Cathedral bar will be open for drinks. It’s a first taste of what Sheffield’s future as a snowsports city could look like.

Frit Tam, Festival Co-Director said: “The Cathedral is a true landmark of our city, and such a unique space to watch and experience films. What makes this year’s Spirit of Adventure so unique is that for the first time, we’ll be celebrating the ‘spirit’ of adventure in Sheffield for two nights, rather than just one.

"And not only that, our partnership with the fantastic folks at RSSV means we will also be bringing snow sports and family activities to the Cathedral’s forecourt, giving everyone who attends a unique experience both inside and outside of the Cathedral. It’s going to be a very special couple of days.”

RSSV gained national attention in 2024 with their short film ‘Summit’s Missing : Reviving the Sheffield Ski VIllage’, which premiered at ShAFF earlier this year. Their campaign to rebuild the old dry ski slope near Kelham Island has captured public imagination and civic support. This event marks the next step in taking that vision public and getting Sheffielders involved.

Inside the Cathedral, audiences can expect four distinct screenings across both nights, featuring local, national and international films that explore the meaning of adventure in surprising places. Highlights include This Mountain Life, Wild Days, and two Best of ShAFF compilations featuring Sheffield made shorts like The Trail Camera and In It To Wing It.

Each session begins and ends with live choral performances from Chesterfield Community Choir on Friday, and Sonority Choir Sheffield on Saturday, creating a unique blend of film and music in one of the city’s most atmospheric venues.
