Research sister at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Nickie Wilkinson, says she is passionate about raising awareness of and the importance of cancer research.

She said: “I decided to take on the biggest challenge of my life and I am running everyday this year to raise money for a local cancer charity Team Verrico. Yep, running 365 days, come rain or shine.

“The Owston Ferry 10K run on June 19 is a local race for me and in a village where my kids go to school, and which is also organised by my local run shop, Metres to Miles in Epworth.

“It seemed only fitting that we turned the race pink, in support of our local charity and the charity I am running everyday this year for – Team Verrico.”

Running coach for We Can Run In Epworth, Allison Smith, who has coached Nickie, said: “Nickie started her challenge last November and so far this year has run 1,000 miles.”

She added: “It is great that she is raising money for Team Verrico, our local charity set up by our friend Paul Verrico after the death of his wife. Nickie is an oncology research sister at DRI so this is a cause close to her heart. Nickie did our beginners 5k programme a few years back.

“She struggled with confidence for years and since doing the Run Every Day challenge she has gone from strength to strength. She inspires, she motivates and she runs with others to get them out running. She is an amazing ambassador for our local running community.”
