David Copperfield, Crucible Studio
Following their artistically acclaimed production of Mansfield Park last Summer, Denys Edwards Players return to the Studio with Charles Dickens’ epic tale, the novel that draws from the writer’s own life.
Scrupulously faithful to Dickens’ original, Ian Mullins’ powerful adaptation tells the story of the orphaned boy who grows up to discover love and happiness, heartbreak and sorrow, amid a cast of eccentrics, innocents, and villains.
All the characters are vividly portrayed – the magnificent Micawber, the scheming ‘umble’ Uriah Heep, the proud and loveable Mr Peggotty and his tender-hearted sister, the wicked Mr Murdstone, the irascible Aunt Betsey, the ‘willing’ Mr Barkis and the ‘lone lorn’ comedy of Mrs Gummidge.
Join Denys Edwards Players and follow David’s adventures from childhood to young man as he suffers the cruelties of his stepfather, headmaster and employers before escaping to better fortune.
Performed to critical acclaim in theatres around the country it is a tale of joy and sadness, melodrama and comedy, which is suitable for all the family.
Jack Hallam, a sixth form student at Eckington School who lives in Killamarsh, plays the title role.
Jack said “I was thrilled to hear I will be playing the role of David, it is such an opportunity – one that will help shape my theatre studies.”
The show starts tonight and runs to Saturday. The evening shows start at 7.15pm and there is also a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm.
