Cinderella returns to South Yorkshire

The UK’s most popular choreographer, Matthew Bourne returns to the Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield from Tuesday 24 to Saturday 28 May with his new production of Cinderella, created to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Blitz.

Cinderella is a thrilling and evocative journey through London during the Second World War. Matthew Bourne’s interpretation of Prokofiev’s haunting score has, at its heart, a true wartime romance. A chance meeting results in a magical night for Cinderella and her dashing young RAF pilot, together just long enough to fall in love before being parted by the horrors of the Blitz.

First seen in the West End in 1997, but now completely revised, this brand new production is created to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the London Blitz. Featuring a specially commissioned new recording of the score, New Adventures will create a cinematic experience, taking the audience into the heart of Prokofiev’s magnificent music and the sound world of war-torn London. The show will be performed in Surround Sound, designed by Paul Groothuis.

Matthew Bourne is widely hailed as the UK’s most popular and successful choreographer/director. He is the creator of the world’s longest running ballet production, a five-time Olivier Award-winner, and the only British director to have won the Tony Award for both Best Choreographer and Best Director of a Musical.

Tickets for Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella can be purchased from Sheffield Theatres Box Office in-person, by phone on 0114 249 6000 or online at and are priced from £20.00 - £34.00, discounts available.
