This autumn half term, Cast, Doncaster are inviting little ones and their grown ups to join them for a week of fun and surprises with Wendy the Worried Walrus, Hercules the dancing superhero, Goggles the Leaping Frog, Hansel and Gretel and many more in their Children’s Festival from Saturday October 25 – Saturday November 1.

The Children’s Festival opens with Hercules, Saturday 25 October, 2pm & 7pm. One extraordinary superhero, 12 impossible tasks…it’s the story of Hercules as you’ve never seen it before! Hercules is best known for his incredible strength. But who knew the guy could dance? This pre panto madness is created by and starring the award winning dancing comedy double act Tom Roden and Pete Shenton of New Art Club.

It’s time for the Annual Animal Beauty Contest! This year’s contestants include Terry the Tree Frog, Randy the Panda, Mary-Rose the Flamingo and a brand new, first time competitor… Wendy the Walrus! Find out what happens when Wendy gets booed off staged in The Worried Walrus, Tuesday 28 October, 12 noon and 3pm.

Join Goggles the wood frog for a puppet adventure in Leaping Frog, Wednesday October 29, noon and 3pm, as she boings and doings on the yellow pond lily and into a much bigger one! Where you’ll meet Mr Fisher the Heron and Rubber Duck on a voyage down running river.

Hansel and Gretel, the deliciously scary story of a tango dancing witch and her irresistible recipe for an edible house. On Thursday and Friday October 30 and 31, 1.30pm and 4pm, follow two brave and resourceful children as they take the path deep into the woods in Red Earth’s retelling of one of the most popular fairy tales of all.

Other activities throughout the week include BBC Ten Pieces, a free inspiring and immersive new cinematic film, designed to introduce a generation of children to ten pieces of classical music on Monday October 27, 11am, 2pm and 6pm. On the final day of the children’s festival Cast in partnership with Music in the Round will be holding Music Workshops for children and their adults with professional percussionist Janet Fulton on Saturday November 1, workshops for 8–11 year olds are at noon and for 3–7 year olds at 3pm, tickets are £3.50*

Tickets for The Worried Walrus, Leaping Frog and Hansel and Gretel are £8.50 adults/£5.50 children per event or £22.50 adults/£13.50 children* for all three shows.
